Designated Area of Concentration (DAC)

Students are required to fulfill a secondary area of expertise.  This requirement can be met by declaring a minor outside of Jl MC/ADVRT with at least 15 credits, a second major outside of JL  MC/ADVRT with at least 15 credits, a second major outside of JL MC/ADVRT, or an adviser-approved designated area of concentration with at least 21 credits, 12 of which must be 300+ level and 9 credits minimum must not be used to meet any college or university requirement. Students in the  Fall 2013 catalog or later must file an appeal to use a DAC. 

Designated Area of Concentration (DAC).  A DAC is made up of 21 credits that each student chooses individually.  The DAC serves as a secondary area of expertise to complement a student’s professional and academic interests.   


All courses for the DAC must be taken outside of advertising and journalism. The requirements are as follows:

•    At least 12 credits must be at the 300-level or above
•    A second major may fulfill the requirements of the DAC
•    Students must fill out the DAC Approval Form online
•    Every DAC must be approved by faculty adviser
